Before he got the top job at the SEC, Mr. Pitt was widely regarded as one of the nation's foremost authorities on securities law. Hired as an SEC staff member at age 23, he was promoted seven years later to become the agency's youngest general counsel ever. He subsequently began a lucrative reign during private practice, at the international law firm Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson in Washington.
