found: Edwin Landseer: the private drawings, 2014:page 2 of cover, etc. (Sir Edwin Landseer RA (1802-1873) was the foremost animal painter of his day; he also made elegant and witty drawings in pen and wash, sketched when he stayed with his aristocratic patrons or as a member of their group on extended holidays in the Highlands; born March 2, 1802 in London; he showed his first works at the Royal Academy in 1817 as an honorary exhibitor because he was below the age limit for regular contributors; he was elected an associate of the RA in 1826, becoming a full member in 1831; in 1840 he suffered a severe mental breakdown; for the rest of his life he was to be plagued by bouts of depression and instability, leading in the last year of his life to being certified insane; in 1857 he was selected to sculpt the lions at the base of Nelson's column; died October 1, 1873; he had been the best-known and best-loved British painter of his age)
