Born at Brandon's Chapel, Lyon County, Ky. on January 12, 1896 Studied at Central College, Fayette, Missouri until his service in World War I. He graduated as a journalism major in 1922 from the University of Kentucky. Edited and published the Lawrenceburg newspaper, the "Anderson News" then in 1925 he moved to the "Richmond Daily Register". In 1935 he was successfully elected to Kentucky's lieutenant governor. When Governor A. B. Chandler resigned to take over M. M. Logan's Senate's seat, Johnson became governor in October 1939 and then won election in the November general election of 1939. After his governorship ended in 1943, he returned to the "Richmond Daily Register." Died in Richmond, Ky.)
