Prior to joining FEE in 2008, he served for twenty years as president of the Mackinac Center for Public Policy. He also taught economics full-time from 1977 to 1984 at Northwood University in Michigan. Reed is the author or coauthor of seven other books, including Excuse Me, Professor: Challenging the Myths of Progressivism and A Republic -- If We Can Keep It ... Reed holds a bachelor's degree in economics from Grove City College, which has awarded him its Distinguished Alumni award, and a master's in history from Slippery Rock State University.
