found: Johansen, Bruce E. Encyclopedia of Native American biography, 1997:page 223 (Will West "Wili Westi" Long, Cherokee; born in Big Cove, North Carolina around 1870. Became a translator and interpreter between English and Cherokee. Collaborated with James Mooney, an ethnologist from the Smithsonian beginning in 1887. Mooney pursuaded him to attend the Hampton Institute and lived in Massachusetts, returning to NC in 1904. Became a well-known carver of wooden ceremonial masks. Died March 14, 1947 in Qualla, N.C.)
