He graduated from Marquette University in 1929 and received his law degree in 1931. He was a member of the Democratic Party. He served as an assistant city attorney for Milwaukee from 1936 to 1940. In 1940, Zeidler won the mayoral election for the city of Milwaukee. After a year in office, Zeidler believed he could best help the war effort by enlisting; he resigned his position as mayor and accepted a Navel Reserve commission on April 8, 1942. He was assigned to the merchant ship SS LaSalle. The ship and all hands were reported missing off the coast of South Africa on December 11, 1942, sunk by a German U-boat torpedo attack. Zeilder was officially presumed dead on November 7, 1944.)
