found: Empire Steel and Iron Company records, 1857-1991:(Empire Steel and Iron Company; incorporated in New Jersey, March 14, 1899; a holding company that combined the ownership a a number of smaller and older iron making and iron mining companies, including the Crane iron works at Catasauqua, Pa., Oxford Furnace at Oxford, N.J., Henry Clay Furnace at Reading Pa., Macungie Furnace, Pa., Topton Furnace, Pa., Gem Furnace at Shenandoah, Va., Victoria Furnace at Goshen, Va., the Mount Hope Mining Company at Mount Hope, N.J., as well as other iron mines, coal and coke plants and plant and mine railroads; headquarters moved from New York City to Catasauqua, Pa., in 1900; became a subsidiary of the Replogle Steel Company on July 1, 1922, and of the Warren Pipe and Foundry Corporation in 1927; shortly thereafter the Empire Steel and Iron Company was merged into the Warren Pipe and Foundry Company, an operating subsidiary; all iron furnaces had been sold or abandoned by 1932; former subsidiary Mount Hope Mining Company remained in operation until 1978)
