found: Cincinnati Observatory website, viewed October 26, 2016:home page, etcetera (mission is to promote the study and practice of 21st century astronomy and science; in 1842, Cincinnati professor Ormsby MacKnight Mitchel began raising money for the a telescope and an observatory building; he purchased an 11-inch Merz and Mahler refractor telescope and it was shipped via New Orleans, up the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers to downtown Cincinnati; the observatory originally sat on four acres of land donated by Nicholas Longworth at the top of Mt. Adams and was dedicated on November 9, 1843; to get away from the pollution of downtown, the telescope moved in 1873 to a new settlement renamed Mt.
