found: Kentucky encyclopedia, ©1992:page 559 ("William Marcus Linney", geologist, born on January 1, 1835 in Lawrenceburg, Ky. A self educated cobbler in Campbellsville, Ky., he independently studied geology and botany which he later taught at Harmonia College in Perryville starting in 1871. In 1875 he attended Harvard's summer school in geology, held at Cumberland Gap. In 1878 he moved to Harrodsburg and taught science at Daughters College. Wrote reports for the Kentucky Geological Survey, published between 1880 and 1887. Died September 22, 1886.)
