Its headquarters were located at Calle de San Jerónimo 54-A, in Mexico City, with meetings held in the cloister of the former convent of La Santísima. Later the general offices were moved to Donceles 70. Its first president was Juan de la Cabada. In May 1936 the board was renewed and the musician Silvestre Revueltas became president. Later, the novelist José Mancisidor took over. Among the writers who attended the founding meeting were Juan de la Cabada, Ermilo Abreu Gómez and the Guatemalan Luis Cardoza y Aragón. Writers such as Rafael F. Muñoz, José Rubén Romero, José Revueltas, Arqueles Vela, Agustín Yáñez and Efraín Huerta also attended. In 1937, the League appointed a delegation made up of José Mancisidor, Juan de la Cabada, Fernando Gamboa, Octavio Paz, María Luisa Vera, José Chávez Morado, Carlos Pellicer and Silvestre Revueltas to travel to Spain to participate in the Congress of Anti-Fascist Writers. It should be noted, however, that neither Octavio Paz nor Carlos Pellicer was not part of it. The LEAR disappeared in 1939, as did the magazines Ruta and Frente a Frente, which had ceased publication in 1938. )
