She received the degree of Science in Computer Science Engineering and the Ph.D. degree in in Electrical Engineering from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, in 1981 and 1987, respectively. She was a guest professor at Stanford University, CA, USA and at Uppsala University, Sweden, and a visiting fellow and scientist at the University of Minnesota, MN, USA. Sabine Van Huffel has been a Postdoctoral Researcher with the Fund for Scientific Research Flanders (FWO) from 1987-1991. From 1999-2000 she was research director at FWO. She is since 2002 full Professor (Buitengewoon Hoogleraar) biomedical data processing with KU Leuven.
