Bacon; chartered under the name La Grange Female Seminary it became La Grange Collegiate Seminary for Young Ladies 2 years later; became Southern and Western Female College by another charter in 1852; Ichabod F. Cox took over school in 1857 and controlled until his death in 1887; during this period school was named for him and his family; Cox College moved to Manchester (now College Park) in 1895; in its new location became Southern Female College; retained strong Baptist connections)
