Hertz did mission work in South Dakota, and the couple moved to various places around the state. They moved to New York in 1933 while Rudolf Hertz got training to manage the Santee Normal School in Nebraska, which he did for three years. The Hertzes moved back to South Dakota, where Rudolf died in 1953.)
