Joined the military in 1776 and served in several battles. Moved to what is now Sumner County, Tenn. in 1785. Elected to the state senate of Tennessee. At the beginning of the War of 1812, was commissioned a general and sent to Kentucky to command the Army of the Northwest.. Died on July 26, 1826.)
