found: Smithsonian magazine, March 1977:p. 121, etc. (American Colony, a community of American expatriates; founded by Anna Spafford as a kind of "expatriate Hull House to help Jerusalem's sick, wounded, and needy"; members of the group established medical clinics, orphanages, social welfare programs, soup kitchens, and schools; Anna Grace Lind, granddaughter of Anna Spafford, transformed the American Colony villa into the American Colony Hotel which still exists today)
