found: Oxford Dictionary of National Biography, June 16, 2015(Ramsay, John, of Ochtertyre; born 1736; died March 2, 1814; writer on Scotland, was born on 26 August 1736, the elder son of James Ramsay of Ochtertyre, near Stirling (d. 1748), writer to the signet, and Anne Dundas. Educated at the grammar school at Dalkeith and then at the University of Edinburgh, he passed as advocate by 1753. He was a moderate Presbyterian in his earlier years and attended various meetings of the general assembly of the Church of Scotland between 1753 and 1760, before shifting to a more traditional outlook. Ramsay's literary remains were bound in ten volumes, deposited in the National Library of Scotland in 1936, and purchased by the library in 1993. A selection edited by Alexander Allardyce for publication in 1888 under the title Scotland and Scotsmen in the Eighteenth Century has become a standard source for Scottish political, religious, and social history.) - http://www.oxforddnb.com/view/article/65043
