A historic mutiny occurred during his command of HMS Bounty in 1789; Bligh and his loyal men made a remarkable voyage to Timor, 3,618 nautical miles (6,701 km; 4,164 mi), after being set adrift in the Bounty's launch by the mutineers; Fifteen years after the Bounty mutiny, he was appointed Governor of New South Wales in Australia; 4th Governor of New South Wales, in office 13 August 1806-26 January 1808; born St Tudy, Cornwall, Great Britain; it is likely that he was born in Plymouth, Devon, where Bligh's father, Francis (1721-1780), was serving as a Customs Officer. Bligh's ancestral home of Tinten Manor in St Tudy near Bodmin, Cornwall, is also a possibility; died 25 Bond Street, London, England, Great Britain)
