Worked in printing and advertising. Married and moved to Chicago, Ill. He and his wife traveled extensively through the United States and at Christmas 1935 they mailed a list of "superior eating places" to their friends and family. This led to their 1936 publication "Adventures in Good Eating and later "Lodging for a Night" (1938) as well as two cookbooks. In 1949, with his business partner Roy H. Park, founded the Hines-Park Foods Company which sold food under the Duncan Hines label as well as the Duncan Hines Institute which conducted food research and granted scholarships to students in hotel and restaurant management. Hines-Park Foods was purchased by Proctor and Gamble in 1956. Hines died in Bowling Green on March 15, 1959.)
