    • [Imo State University, founded in 1981, was temporarily located in Etiti, then moved to its permanent location in Uturu in the late 1980s; the creation of Abia State in 1991, with Uturu in its boundaries, necessitated moving the university to Owerri, the capital of Imo State; the Uturu campus then became the site of the new Abia State University.]
