It was first mentioned in the Hypatian Chronicle under the year 1287. In 1541 the town was granted the rights of the Magdeburg law. From 1768 it belonged to the Branicki family. During the interwar years Liuboml was a county center in the Volhynia voivodeship. A burial site from the 3rd to 4th centuries and two fortified settlements from the time of Kievan Rus' have been excavated near Liuboml)

Li︠u︡bomlʹWas part of the Halyt︠s︡ʹko-Volynsʹke kni︠a︡zivstvo. In 1349 it was seized by Lithuania, and in 1541 it was granted Magdeburg law. By the terms of the Lublin Union of 1569 it was ceded to Poland. After the third partition of Poland in 1795 by the Russian Army, Li︠u︡bomlʹ became part of the Volynsʹke namisnyt︠s︡tvo, and from 1797 it belonged to the Volynsʹka hubernii︠a︡. Between 1915 and 1920 the city was often occupied by Austro-Hungarian and then Polish forces. Li︠u︡bomlʹWas seized temporarily by Soviet forces, but from Sept. 1920 the city was again retaken by Poland. On 23 Sept. 1939 the city was liberated by the Red Army and became part of the Volynsʹka oblastʹ)
