found: Tennessee historical quarterly, fall 1991:page 157, etc. (John Donelson; may have been born as early as 1718 or as late as April 7, 1725, Maryland; died April 11, 1786, on the Barren River in modern-day Tennessee; moved to Brunswick county, Virginia in 1744; worked as a surveyor and developed iron mining in the region; represented the county in the House of Burgesses, 1770-1774; involved in treaty negotiatons with various native tribes; part of an expedition that traveled from Fort Patrick Henry to French Lick (the current Nashville) in late December 1779-April 1780; settled near there, but moved to near Harrodsburg, Kentucky in 1781; involved with further negotiations with native tribes before being appointed to a Georgia commission to survey the lands of the Tennessee River in Feb. 1784; was traveling to meet with other commissioners when he was attacked and shot by unknown assailants)
