found: Kentucky encyclopedia, ©1992:pages 403-404 ("Martin D. Hardin", legislator and officer in the War of 1812. Born June 21, 1780 in Pennsylvania; moved in April 1786 to Nelson County, Kentucky. Educated at Transylvania University and studying law under George Nicholas, he was admitted to the bar in 1801. Practiced law in Richmond, Ky. Served in the Kentucky House of Representatives 1805-1807 and again in 1812. Governor Issac Shelby appointed him Secretary of State in August 1812. Later appointed to the U. S. Senate to fill a vacant seat, he served there November 13, 1816 to March 3, 1817. Re-elected to the Kentucky House in 1818, he served one term. Died in Frankfort on October 8, 1823.)
