found: Personal correspondence with researcher Michael Morey, Nov. 16, 2018(The birth and death dates for David Fagen are incorrect and should be changed on the heading; The confusion about David Fagen's birth date arises from the fact that he lied about his birth date in order to enlist in the army, June 4, 1898, claiming that he was twenty-two years old; Phillip W. Hoffman, in his recently published book about Fagen, Turncoat Hero, writes: "David Fagen, the sixth and last child of Sam and Sylvia Fagen, was born in 1878"; Census records clearly show that David Fagen's birth year was 1878; The army reported Fagen killed by a Filipino hunting party, Dec. 1, 1901; The consensus among historians has grown over the ensuing years that Fagen almost certainly did not die in 1901; The more likely date for Fagen's death would be July 1906, but that is not for certain; To be accurate, David Fagen's birth and death dates should read: 1878-1901?)
