found: Dictionary of African Biography, accessed November 25, 2014, via Oxford African American Studies Center database:(Asante, David; pastor and missionary; born c.1834 in Akuropon, Ghana; was baptized in 1847; studied at the Basel Mission Seminary in Switzerland (1857); was ordained (1862) and sent into the hinterland of the Gold Coast to prepare for the foundation of new mission stations; supervised the everyday life of African Christians; successively took charge of the Christian communities in Late (Akuapem), Kukurantumi, and Kyebi (Akyem Abuakwa) as a pastor and partly as a political leader; following a conflict with the ruler of Akyem, he was obliged to appear before a British colonial court (1877); after the lawsuit he was removed from Kyebi and never again given the opportunity to serve major mission stations (1877); failed to build up a successful career, but can be regarded as the forerunner of postcolonial intellectual and political elite; died 13 October 1892 in Akuropon, Ghana)
