found: Smith College, Sophia Smith Collection web site, July 6, 2012:Marie Munk papers, biographical note (Marie Munk was born in Berlin on July 4, 1885; died: January 17, 1978, Cambridge, Massachusetts; graduated from Kaiserin Augusta Gymnasium and received her Doctor of Laws degree from Heidelberg University in 1911; in 1925 she became the first woman admitted to practice law in Berlin and was appointed district court judge in 1929; she was of Jewish descent and fled Nazi persecution, moving to the United States in 1934 to work at the New York School for Delinquent Girls; in 1943 Munk was admitted to the Massachusetts Bar; worked as a marriage counselor for the Court of Common Pleas in Toledo, Ohio; joined the faculty of Harvard University in 1953)
