Lindh, Ingemar, 1945-1997

  • [Ingemar Willy Lindh was born in Gothenburg, Sweden, on 21 February 1945. In his search for a concrete base for the work of the actor - a question ignored by the Swedish theatre of the time - and after studies at Skara Theatre School, he turned to dance (Stora Teaterns Balletskola in Gothenburg and Ballettakademien in Stockholm) before he finally came upon Étienne Decroux and his L'École de Mime in Paris. He studied with the founder and master of Corporeal Mime for two years and then became his assistant. In addition to giving workshops for actors in the Netherlands, France and Switzerland, Lindh worked for a year and a half at Nordisk Laboratorium for Skuespillerkonst in Holstebro with Studio 2, a group he founded in 1969 together with three other students of Decroux (Yves Lebreton, Maria Lexa, Gisèle Pélisson). In 1971, he founded the Institutet för Scenkonst in Storhögen, Sweden. In 1984 Lindh and the Institutet för Scenkonst moved to Italy and founded the International Centre for Auto-Pedagogy and Theatre Research at the Teatro della Rosa in Pontemoli. I 1995 he co-founded and directed the research programme xHCA (Questioning Human Creativity as Acting) at the University of Malta. He died in Malta on 26 June 1997, aged 52.]
