She joined the office of South Africa's first democratically ellected president as a Senior Ministerial Typist in 1994. She was promoted to one of the president's three private secretaries and after his retirement in 1999 Nelson Mandela asked her to remain in his service. She served him over a period of 19 years in different capacities and her loyalty during this time was recognised by various institutions)
