Served as a Republican for one term in the Kentucky House of Representatives 1819-1821. Moved to Henry County, Ky. in 1823 to become the minister of the Newcastle Baptist church; later established a law practice in Elizabethtown, Ky. Elected to fill a vacancy in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1827 to March 3, 1831, then later in 1833, serving until 1835. Served as pastor of a Baptist church in Hopkinsville, Ky., then moved to Alabama where he served churches in Montgomery, Greensboro and Newbern. Moved to Houston, Texas then to Montgomery, Texas.)
