Junius Wingfield Nisbet (1858-1933) was a lawyer and civic leader. The collection consists mainly of correspondence and genealogical and historical writings of Nisbet, as well as family and business correspondence, diaries, scrapbooks, and three manuscript plays he wrote. Nisbet kept diaries and/or commonplace books at Macon, 1869 and 1875-1883; at the University of Georgia, 1873; and while in Washington, D.C., as clerk of a committee of the United States House of Representatives, 1884-1885. Also included is some correspondence, 1840s to 1890s, of Junius Wingfield Nisbet's father, James Taylor Nisbet (1828-1894), lawyer, and of his grandfather, Eugenius Aristides Nisbet (1803-1871), jurist and United States Representative, both of Macon, Ga., mostly relating to the practice of law.
