found: Forsyth, David. Eben Smith, 2021CIP data view (Ebenezer Smith, was born in Beaverdam, Pennsylvania on December 17, 1831. He was educated in public schools in Erie and at a private academy in Waterford, Pennsylvania. Eben Smith was not immune to the allure of the discovery of gold in California, and in 1850, he decided to go there to try his hand at mining. Smith and his family moved to Colorado on May 26, 1860. In 1877, Governor John Routt appointed him as a Boulder County Commissioner, a position to which he was re-elected in 1878. He served as Chairman of the Board of County Commissioners during his second term. No industry played a more important role in the development of Colorado in the nineteenth century than mining. Eben Smith, with his knowledge and expertise in the field, played a key role in the growth of mining, and as a result, in the growth of Colorado. Eben Smith died from acute peritonitis on November 5, 1906 in Denver, Colorado.)
