A religious exhile during the French Revolution, he moved to Baltimore where on May 25, 1793 he became the first Catholic priest ordained in the United States. He was assigend to missionary work in Kentucky, where he arrived in 1793. Served in Kentucky in Scott County and Marion County; purchased the land on which University of Notre Dame now exists. Died in Cincinnati on April 19, 1853.)
