USC Shoah Foundation

  • [USC Shoah Foundation, via WWW, viewed 1 May 2017: In response to a request from the Archivist at the USC Shoah Foundation to update the name of the Foundation on this authority record; the official website usage:] (Within the official website of the Foundation, there are many locations, e.g. The home page, the address, caption titles, news articles, etc. that show the typography for USC Shoah Foundation in larger, bolder print and The Institute for Visual History and Education is in smaller, non-bold print. The Foundation itself also commonly refers to itself as the USC Shoah Foundation. It is also referred to as the Foundation or The Institute. While the legal name of the foundation is: USC Shoah Foundation - The Institute for Visual History and Education, the organization appears to be better known as the USC Shoah Foundation, while The Institute for Visual History and Education seems to be more of a "subtitle" description of the Foundation. It is believed that the Foundation and the Institute are one in the same with the Institute being more of a descriptive "subtitle" of the Foundation.) About Us (Steven Spielberg founded the Institute in 1994 to videotape and preserve interviews with survivors and other witnesses of the Holocaust. The Foundation preserves video testimonies from survivors of the 1939-1945 Jewish Holocaust, 1994 Rwandan Tutsi Genocide, 1937 Nanjing Massacre, the Armenian Genocide that coincided with World War I, and the Guatemalan Genocide, and there are plans to include other genocides.) https://sfi.usc.edu/

Now Mr. Spielberg has expanded the foundation's footprint on the University of Southern California campus, along with its mission and public focus: to fight hate, which he says has become commonplace globally. While the foundation continues to archive stories from victims of anti-Semitism, and advocate on their behalf, it is also collecting what Mr. Spielberg calls, "living testimony" from modern genocide victims)
