found: Goodreads page for Tattered battlements, January 27, 2023(Hugh Anthony Stephen (Tim) Johnston; Tim Johnston was the son of James Johnston, Indian Civil Servant; In 1936, Johnston entered the Overseas Civil Service, in which he was eventually to make his career. This was interrupted during the war, when he served from 1940 to 1945 in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve (RAFVR). He rose to the rank of Wing Commander, and won the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC) and Bar; After returning to the Colonial Service, Johnston was was awarded the OBE in 1954 and the CMG in 1959. The following year, he was appointed Deputy Governor of the Northern Region of Nigeria. Johnston returned home in 1961 to become the Director of the Overseas Resettlement Bureau, a post which he held till 1965.
