found: Enciclopedia de Oviedo Web site, Dec. 12, 2013(Joaquín Alonso Bonet; playwright, poet, and journalist; born in Gijón, 1889, died there 1975. He studied at the Instituto Jovellanos de Gijón. On finishing he worked as a journalist in the Gijón area, eventually taking over as director of the Gijón daily La Prensa. In 1930 he composed the play in verse Don Guzmán de Castilla, which debuted that year garnering major success in theaters in Spain and Latin America. In 1937 he was appointed editor of the newspaper Voluntad, where he remained for twelve years until he retired. He was a member of the old Academia Asturiana, the Real Instituto de Estudios Asturianos (RIDEA), the Comisión Provincial de Monumentos, and the Academia de Declamación, Música y Bellas Artes de Málaga. In 1954 he was appointed official chronicler of the town of Gijón with simultaneous appointment as president of the Asociación de la Prensa Gijonesa. He collaborated in the preparation of the Gran Enciclopedia Asturiana.
