He is known primarily for his paintings of scenes in and around Manhattan, especially Central Park. He was a member of the American Institute of Architects and the Art Students League of New York, as well as the Society of Independent Artists and the Royal Academy. Cobb was born in Illinois, the first of ten children of architect Henry Ives Cobb and Emma Martin Smith.)
