- found: Mr. Marquois's most useful pair of scales, 2015:page 6 (Thomas Marquois) page 13, etc. (probably born during the late 1720s in London; Huguenot; apprenticed to the Huguenot engraver Paul Fourdrinier in 1742; he studied fortification, artillery and mathematics under John Muller; set up a military academy and described himself as Professor of Artillery and Fortification; after it closed, he offered private instruction in the military sciences and drawing; in about 1778 he invented the parallel scales, intended principally for military engineering work; died at some time between February 24 and May 17, 1802)
