Earned bachelor of arts degree from Georgetown College (Georgetown, Ky.) in 1927 and MA from the University of Kentucky in 1947; taught math and coached basketball and football at Paris (Ky.) High School; enlisted in the Navy in 1943 and was assigned to the Great Lakes Naval Station as a swimming instructor. Coached the U. S. Navy football team under Paul Brown. When Brown formed the Cleveland Browns in 1945, he hired Collier as a coach. Collier became head football coach at the University of Kentucky in 1954, leaving in 1962 to return to coach for the Cleveland Browns until his retirement in 1970. Won NFL championship in 1964. Died March 22, 1983 in Houston, Texas.)
