found: Johansen, Bruce E. The encyclopedia of Native American biography, 1997:page 74 (Henry Roe Cloud; Wonah'ilayhunka, or "War Chief". Contrary to that name, Roe fused Native and Euro-American cultures in a peaceful way as an educator and reformer of U.S. government policies toward Native Americans. Born in Thurston County, Nebraska as a Winnebago tribe member. In 1910 he was the first Native American student to earn a degree from Yale; in 1914 he earned a masters degree from there. In 1915, Roe established the American Indian Institute in Wichita, Kansas which prepared young Native Americans for college at a time when all other schools offered them only vocational training. Roe became the only Native American member of the Institute for Government Research (later called the Brookings Institution. Initiated the Meriam Report in 1926 which documented conditions on many Native American reservations. In 1933 he became the first Native American to preside over the Haskell Institute. Held several posts in the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Died while serving as a superintendent of the Umatilla Reservation Agency in Oregon.)
