Composer and conductor, ?adopted son of (1) Adrien François Servais. For some time rumoured to be the illegitimate son of Liszt, who later became a close friend (but see Walker), he won the Belgian Prix de Rome in 1873 with the cantata La mort du Tasse. He spent over 20 years working on the opera Apollonide (later Iôn, produced at Karlsruhe in 1899), and wrote symphonic works and songs in a rather formal style. He founded the Concerts d'Hiver in Brussels.)
