He graduated from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1839, and commenced practice in Columbia. Ambassadorship: On March 13, 1845, William H. Polk was appointed charĒ§ d'affaires to the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies by his brother [James K. Polk], who had just been elected president. Member of the Tennessee House of Representatives, in office 1841-1845 ; Member os the U.S. House of Representatives from Tennessee's 6th district, in office March 4, 1851 - March 3, 1853 ; Military service, United States Army, years of service 1847-1848 ; After a trip to the Northern states in late 1862, Polk fell ill while staying at the St. Cloud Hotel in Nashville.
