Comanded Cherokee men on the side of the United States in the campaign against Creek Red Sticks. In March 1814 at the Battle of Horseshoe Bend, Junaluska is reputed to have slain a Creek warrior who was about to strike General Andrew Jackson with a tomahawk. For his service in the U.S. cause, he was granted a large tract of land.)
