Date of founding unknown but the city was already noted for its manufacturing and craftwork by the 14th and 15th cents. From 1387 to 1772 Rohatyn was part of Poland. In 1772 the city was annexed by the Austro-Hyngarian Empire. Seized by Poland in 1919 the city was formerly annexed to Poland by the Treaty of 1921 Mar. 18. After the reunification of the Western Ukrainian lands to Soviet Ukraine in 1939 Rohatyn became part of the Halyt︠s︡ʹkyĭ raĭon (1964) then later the Rohatynsʹkyĭ raĭon)
