Rhodamine B as a marker for the assessment of non-toxic bait uptake by animals, 1998:p. 3 (non-toxic dye Rhodamine B (RB)) p. 21 (Rhodamine B is a non-toxic dye used to colour textiles, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics such as lipstick and agricultural products such as herbicide sprays. It has in the past been used as a water tracing agent, but has since been replaced by improved dyes. RB is also used as a stain in the microscopy of tissue and immunology; belongs to the class of dyes known as fluorenes, a subgroup of xanthene dyes; should not be confused with other rhodamines such as Rhodamine 6G or Rhodamine WT - they are xanthene dyes with similar structure but are not the same. RB is the most common name for the dye but it may be referred to as Basic violet 10, tetraethyl 3',6'-diaminofluoran or D&C Red No 19 (in reference to its classification as a D̲rug and C̲osmetic dye)
