found: Coll. ency. of Scot., 1994(Built by the Ruthven family in the 15th and early 16th centuries ... then as now the houses was two houses, an earlier rectangular tower house seperated by about 10ft (3m.) from a newer nearly L-shaped tower house. In the 17th century the gap between them was filled with a plain three-storey addition ... by 1900 the place was in a ruinous condition whence it was rescued by the State. The exceptionally fine painting, both abstrat and representational, on the plasterwork and timbered ceiling of the hall of the eastern tower dates from 1540 and is some of the earliest still in existence.)
