On the Cultural Revolution in Tibet, 2009:ECIP data view, summary ("[I]n the summer of 1969, in the midst of the Cultural Revolution in Tibet, a series of serious conflicts occurred throughout the country. The most famous of these took place in Nyemo, a county just southwest of Lhasa on 13 and 14 June 1969. At that time, Tibetan villagers launched attacks on county government officials, PLA (Chinese military) troops stationed there, and civilians. They were led by a revolutionary organization called Gyenlo and by a young Buddhist nun who not only went into trances during which gods spoke through her but also proudly wore an armband with the revolutionary insignia of Gyenlo.")
