Named for Madison lawyer and conservationist Michael Olbrich, who in 1921 purchased 3,500 feet of shoreline on which the gardens would appear three decades later and donated the land to the city, the gardens are owned and operated jointly by the City of Madison Parks and the non-profit Olbrich Botanical Society.
