TitleFor America's Security. Santa Monica, California. Mass production is actually under way as streamlined assembly technique goes into effect at Douglas Aircraft Company's plant here. Photograph shows attack-bomber fuselages sliding along the line on tracks, one of the many unique productive short cuts by Douglas experts under a national defense drive for accelerated output. Included in the Douglas program: streamlined production lines, assembly jigs on tracks, revamped and regrouped shop departments, relocated equipment, rerouted flow of materials. At the same time the Douglas company is building a huge new "blackout" factory in Long Beach, expanding present Santa Monica and El Segundo plants, adding skilled workers, installing new high speed machines. What 20,000 Douglas employees are achieving symbolizes the aircraft industry's accomplishments and promises aerial security for America--as more rapidly than ever before, airplanes take shape, move down the line, and zoom into the skyColor Contentblack and whiteCould not render: bf:code NotePhysical details: safety Applies To: Applies To: all Actual size of negative is B (approximately 5 x 7 inches)Additional number(s) on negative: 22542-D8-7-A-10-17-40Additional number(s) on original negative jacket: Douglas; no. 22542.Title and other information from original negative jacketMore information about the FSA/OWI Collection is available atCould not render: bf:electronicLocatorDimensions5 x 7 inches or smallerExtent1 negativeProvision ActivityPublication: California 1940/1946 Publication: [between 1940 and 1946] CarriersheetCould not render: bf:code Acquisition SourceDLC Stock Number:LC-USE64-DC-000069 (b&w film neg.)
