Randyland is the handiwork of Randy Gilson, who was an activist on Pittsburgh's North Side. His first venture was the planting of more than 80 public vegetable gardens. Gilson then used "dumpster diving" to fill his home with colorful oddities that include pink flamingos, mannequins, and plastic dinosaurs. Thereafter he adorned his modest house with gaudy murals that became international tourist attractions.
