Summary
Editorial cartoon drawing showing President Dwight D. Eisenhower whispering to Secretary of State John Foster Dulles as he looks over his shoulder and across the waters at an identical scene where Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev whispers to A. I. Mikoyan, his deputy premier. Both Eisenhower and Khrushchev say simultaneously, "How soon do you think they'll collapse?" Mikoyan had recently returned from a two-week visit to the United States. Although Mikoyan held discussions with Eisenhower, Dulles and many others, relations between the two countries were at an all-time low. Herblock seems to imply that each country was dismayed by the failure of talks (particularly over Berlin) and wondered if it wasn't easier to wait - and hope - that the other country would self-destruct.
