Summary
The photographic universe conceived by the European explorer, comprising several hundred photographs, constitutes a valuable, original and unrepeatable historical and ethnographic memory that should be part of Colombia's photographic and cultural heritage. This is a pioneering photographic work, given that in the history of photography in Colombia, it was only preceded by the work of the German ethnographer Theodor Koch-Grünberg between 1903 and 1905, who left us a valuable photographic record of some of the indigenous groups of the Miritiparanaó - Apaporis region. Decades later, during the Second World War, the illustrious botanist Richard Evans Schultes began his research and put together some of the most renowned photographic records, particularly on the Colombian Amazon rainforest. Since the mid-20th century, the hugely famous researcher Gerardo Reichel Dolmatoff started another of the most monumental photographic works that remains preserved today thanks to the Luis Angel Arango Library.
